I’m on a placement for Uni, learning how to be a proper teacher, not just one who makes it up as I go along in my role as a Garden teacher. The class had just read a Mother’s Day book, and the teacher was asking those kids with raised hands ‘what their mother did for them?’ My head was slumping a little on the chair as we went through all the ‘she cooks dinner’, ‘she does the washing up.’ One boy kept his hand up through all of this, but his arm was on an odd angle so he wasn’t noticed. Finally, his turn came. ‘What does your mother do for you, Tom?’ Tom replied, ‘she makes my life better.’
